When it comes to kitchen organisation, one of the questions we’re asked most often is how to organise pots and pans. As a general rule, there are two options: store them in cupboards and drawers, or arrange them on the countertop using storage shelves.
If you use drawers to organise your pots and pans, you have to bear in mind that this often means stacking them inside one another, which can create difficulty getting them out. If you want the biggest pan, you need to take out all the others to get to it, which can be a real nuisance. So, when organising your pots and pans, the best option is to place them all side by side, even though this means using up more space.

It’s a similar story with saucepans; although it’s true that they weigh less, so in that sense it’s not as inconvenient to take them all out, you do have to juggle all the lids as well. Saucepans would also be easier to find and use if we lined them up next to each other but, again, this takes up a lot of space. Not forgetting all the space you lose due to their low height.
Taking all this into account – and unless you have a huge kitchen with a multitude of drawers for storing all your different pots and pans – a good alternative is to store them all on the same countertop. You can organise everything properly while make the most of your space by using kitchen storage accessories.
Fortunately, there are many options on the market, and you can easily find:
- Pan and lid holders. Either vertical or horizontal, these are the best option for storing saucepans and their respective lids, since they are designed specifically for this purpose. They take up minimum space and allow you to keep your favourite pans right at hand. It’s also not necessary to fully dry your pans before storing, as they can air dry in the holder.
- Metal shelves. There are many different options available – square, rectangular, angled, corner – so you’ll have no problem finding one to fit the space you have available on your countertop. There are also several different height and size options. They feature several wire tiers and each one can hold either one or several pots, depending on the size. Pots can also be placed to air dry on these shelves. They’ll finish drying on their own without creating moisture inside any of your drawers. And, since they’re out on display, it’s easier to find what you need at all times.
These stands and shelves are especially useful for pots, pans, saucepans and lids, but their usefulness is not limited to these products. You can also use them to store plates, glasses, cups… or whatever else you need a place for. Depending on your use and needs, several shelves can be combined to create the perfect storage solution for keeping your kitchen essentials well organised.
